John Merizalde
Born to a Colombian family in Atlanta, Georgia, John dropped out of college to pursue filmmaking on his own terms, eventually leading him to LA in 2013. John began directing music videos and was soon nominated for Best New Director at the 2016 UKMVA’s, along with his video “Holding Back” for SG Lewis.
In 2018, John wrote and directed the short film Incel, which premiered at SXSW 2019. John’s body of work spans music video, commercial, documentary, and narrative, and has been featured on Vimeo Staff Picks, BBC3, The Atlantic, Dazed, Nowness, Adweek, OnePointFour, Booooooom, Short of the Week, and many more.
After a string of successful commercial campaigns, John was brought on to co-direct an international feature documentary for the band Depeche Mode, alongside acclaimed director Anton Corbijn. The film, Spirits in the Forest, premiered in 70 different countries and ended up as one of the highest-grossing theatrical concert films of 2019.
